The Liberal Democrats are against the Labour government's policy of introducing top-up fees for
University students. These fees are on top of Tuition fees. We are opposed to both and propose bringing back grants, paid
for by a new 50% income tax band on people earning over £100,000.
Labour's 2001 manifesto promised legislation against top-up fees and now they are being introduced.
At the same time Labour's target is to get 50% of students going to university, especially from low income families. How can
they do that when they can expect to come out with £30,000 of debt? In Scotland where we are in government we have re-introduced
grants, meaning that all students get at least £3,075 a year up front.

Liberal Democrat Councillors Stuart Parker and Erica Shaw of the Eastrop ward are campaigning against innapropriate
development in their ward. Particularly in Church Square where Kingfisher Housing Association have submitted an application
to build a three storey block of flats despite, according to Erica Shaw, fears from residents regarding it's height and
the negative impact it will have on the character of the area
