The Liberal Democrats in Basingstoke are the senior party in a joint administration with Labour
which leads Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council. The last local elections left us with 16 Councillors, second only
to the Conservatives and 4 seats more than Labour.
We are a very active local party campaigning on a number of issues. Our members have been very active in
the 'Axe the Tax' campaign (the Liberal Democrat campaign to get rid of the unfair Council Tax and replace it with a local
Income Tax)and in recent Parliamentary by-elections in Brent East and Leicester South.
